Join Joan Weber and a small group of women travelers for an immersion in traditional Japan at the peak of autumn color. Travel by rail and small vehicle along the Japan Sea; through paddy fields, cedar forests and traditional villages; to ancient mountaintop monasteries, hot springs resorts and centers of drumming, drama and dance. The 12-day itinerary includes Matsushima Bay, Hiraizumi, Naruko Onsen, Mount Haguro, Sado Island and Tokyo. As an option, add a lovely extension to Nikko National Park and Kyoto.
Consider Joan's invitation in her words:
"What I love most about Japan is the attention to beauty, the care taken in presentation of a meal or a gift or a garden, the value placed on a simple aesthetic, the unabashed expressions of respect for people and for place. In a nation which defines technological sophistication, a nation of busy people moving fast, a nation with more than its share of glass and chrome and skyscrapers, it is also possible to find an exquisite calm. This will be my fourth visit to Japan, and my first visit to Tohoku. The anticipation of the experience and of the company of my fellow travelers fills me with quiet pleasure. "--JW
